What is the dry bath incubator?

The dry bath incubator, also know as dry bath heating block, is a constant temperature metal bath product which is made of microcomputer control and semiconductor refrigeration technology.

Dry incubator is common used for sample storage, preservation and reaction of various enzymes. It also known as dry block incubator which is widely used in molecular biology and clinical and environmental laboratories.

Application of dry bath incubators

The dry bath incubators are used to heat samples in variety of application. Most of them are made of an aluminum alloy so that the teat is distributed in a uniform way. As dry bath incubator replaces the traditional water bath heating mode. This new metal heating mode can be used in many fields especially in biology.

The scope of application of dry bath incubator

*enzyme reactions
*inactivation of sera
*Rh studies
*blood cross-matching
*cholesterol determinations

Types of dry bath incubators

Dry bath incubator consists of modules and host, so it is generally distinguished by module type and temperature control range. There are three main types of dry bath incubators on the market today, which are digital dry bath incubator, analog dry bath incubator and mini dry bath incubator.

Features of dry bath incubators

Material: Conducive to high purity aluminum material as heat conduction medium
The overall advantages:
*Convenient module replacement,
*Easy to clean and disinfect;
*Automatic fault detection and alarm function;
*High temperature protection device

Analog dry bath incubators

Analog dry bath incubator is an important and common tool to heat samples before the appearing of digital dry baths. The temperature of the incubators was controlled by incremental knobs that the user could turn to change the temperature.
Advantages:
1. Max temperature A: 150ºC/90W
2. Amber pilot light
3. Dynamic temperature range
4. Blocks that are interchangeable among Boekel digital models
Disadvantages:
1. Difficult to control the temperature of their samples

Digital dry bath incubators

Digital dry bath incubator solve the problem of difficult temperature control. It incorporate microchip that provides the users accurately control of the temperature. This incubator also have a digital screen that can display the temperature. There two ways of adjust the temperature which are pressing the up and down buttons or using a knob.
Advantages:
1. Advanced microprocessor controls
2. A removable hinged lid
3. Quick-Flip universal blocks
4. External (optional) temperature probe

Disadvantages:
1. Large and heavy
2. not easy to carry

Mini dry bath incubator

Compare that to the other two dry bath incubators, Mini dry bath incubator is smaller, lighter and more compact. This resulted in a big shift towards manufactures creating smaller and smaller laboratory equipment. It is very convenience for us to do a test.
Advantages:
1. Small volume
2. Easy to carry
3. Complete functions

Disadvantages:
1. Small capacity

How to calibrate dry bath incubator?

dry-incubator
In general, users do not have a complete measuring instrument and a complete measuring method to evaluate the temperature accuracy of the instrument. Therefore, it is generally recommended that the user send the dry thermostat back to the manufacturer for retesting.
The following conditions is necessary:

Environmental requirements: We require temperature calibration at ambient temperature 15C~25C.
Humidity requirements: The humidity should be below 85%
One of the most important instruments for temperature calibration: national second-class standard thermometer (0.1c scale), and must be verified by the department of the national second-class standard thermometer. (for modules with large module holes)
Detection requirements: when the national second-class standard thermometer and high-precision sensor are put into the module hole, it must require a very good contact module. Generally, heat conduction oil (high temperature resistant oil, usually the ignition point must be higher than 200 degrees) and heat conduction grease will be added into the hole
Test method: complete temperature calibration method and instructions provided by the manufacturer
