How Urine Test Strips Are Made?

The urine test strips consist of a ribbon made of plastic or paper of about 5 millimetre wide, plastic strips have pads impregnated with chemicals that react with the compounds present in urine producing a characteristic colour. For the paper strips the reactants are absorbed directly onto the paper.

How do urine dipsticks work?

A dipstick — a thin, plastic stick with strips of chemicals on it — is placed in the urine. The chemical strips change color if certain substances are present or if their levels are above typical levels. A dipstick test checks for: Acidity (pH), glucose, protein, ketones, bilirubin, microalbumin, leukocytes, nitrite, urobilinogen, ascorbate, creatinine, calciu, red blood cell, etc.
