What is ice maker?

ice-maker-machine
Ice maker is a kind of refrigeration machinery and equipment that produces ice by passing water through an evaporator cooled by a refrigerant refrigeration system, using a refrigeration system with a water carrier, and making ice after passing through certain equipment in an energized state. According to the principle of the evaporator and the different production methods, the shape of the generated ice is also different; people generally use the ice shape the ice machine is divided into pellet ice machine, sheet ice machine, plate ice machine, tube ice machine, shell ice machine, and so on.

Working principle of ice maker

Through a replenishment valve, the water automatically enters a reservoir. The water is then sent through a flow control valve via a pump to a manifold head where it is sprayed evenly onto the surface of the ice maker and flows like a curtain over the walls of the ice maker. At this point, the water is cooled to the freezing point, and the water that is not frozen by evaporation flows through the porous tank into the reservoir and starts the cycle again.

When the ice reaches the required thickness (the thickness can be arbitrarily chosen by the operator/user), the hot air discharged from the compressor is redirected back into the wall of the ice maker to replace the low-temperature liquid refrigerant. This forms a film of water between the ice and the evaporation tube wall, which will act as a lubricant as the ice falls freely by gravity into the trough below. The water produced during the ice harvesting cycle will be returned to the reservoir through the porous tank, which also prevents wet ice from being discharged from the machine.

a. The chilled water in the storage tank is continuously circulated by the pump through the evaporator of the plate or compartment.

b. After the compressor runs through the suction - compression - exhaust - condensation (liquefaction) - throttling - and then in the evaporator with -10 to -18 degrees of low-temperature evaporation heat absorption vaporization. Refrigerated water in the water temperature of 0 degrees in the evaporator surface of the lower temperature condensation into ice. When the ice layer condenses to a certain thickness, the evaporating temperature of the refrigerant reaches the set temperature of the temperature control, that is, the defrost solenoid valve is often connected to the heat pump form of deicing and then realizes the next cycle.

Ice-making process

Through the inlet valve, the water automatically enters a water storage tank, and then pumps the water to the manifold, the manifold will flow the water evenly to the evaporator which is cooled by the low-temperature liquid refrigerant, the water is cooled to the freezing point, these water cooled to the freezing point will solidify into ice, and the water which is not frozen by the evaporator flows into the water storage tank again and starts the cycle work again through the pump.

When the ice reaches the required thickness, it enters the deicing state. The high-pressure hot gas discharged from the compressor is diverted to the evaporator through the reversing valve to replace the low-temperature liquid refrigerant. This forms a layer of a water film between the ice and the evaporator, which makes the ice detach from the evaporator, and the ice falls freely into the ice storage tank below by the action of gravity.

Installation method of ice maker

Placement of the ice machine

a. The ice maker should be placed in a safe and clean place with good air circulation all around.

b. The ice machine should not be placed in the open air and should not be exposed to direct sunlight or rain. The surrounding should not be close to a heat source.

c. The machine should not be used in an environment lower than 5℃ and not higher than 38℃.

d. There should be enough space around the machine; the back should not be less than 150mm. so that the machine can dissipate heat.

e. Please adjust the foot screw at the bottom of the machine to ensure that the machine is placed horizontally and smoothly.

Installation of water system

a. Please connect to a water source that meets the local drinking water standards.

b. Connect a filter, if necessary, to improve the drinking water standard.

c. The water supply system must meet the following conditions.
a) Water temperature minimum 2℃, maximum not more than 38℃.
b) Minimum 0.02Mpa and maximum 0.8Mpa water pressure.

Installation of the power supply

a. The power supply must be the same as that indicated on the machine nameplate.

b. All lines must conform to national standards.

c. Reliable grounding, grounding wire must comply with the electrical standards.

d. Voltage fluctuations must not exceed ±10% of the rated voltage.

Operation of ice maker

Ice-making operation process

a. Before starting the machine, you must check whether the automatic water supply device is normal and whether the water tank storage is reasonable (the machine has been adjusted to the correct water level at the factory, so the user may not make any adjustments).

b. Plug in the power, and the ice machine starts to work, first, the pump starts to run (the pump has a short period of air discharge process) about 2 minutes after the compressor starts, the machine enters the ice-making state.

c. When the ice thickness reaches the set thickness, the ice plate probe starts to start, the defrost solenoid valve starts to work, the pump stops working, the hot air enters the evaporator, and the ice falls for about 1 minute. When the ice is falling, make the falling ice stall flip and open the reed switch. When the reed switch closes again, the machine enters into the ice-making process again.

d. The compressor does not stop during the entire ice-making and de-icing process.

e. When the ice storage bucket is full and the reed switch cannot be closed automatically, the machine will stop working automatically. When enough ice is taken away and the reed switch is closed again, the machine will start after a delay of 3 minutes and re-enter the ice-making process.

Adjustment of ice bridge thickness

a. The thickness of the ice bridge should be about 3mm, and the interval between the probe and the evaporator should be about 1.5mm thicker than the actual ice bridge thickness, rotate the adjusting screw mouth clockwise to increase the ice bridge thickness (the screw rotates 1/3 turn the ice bridge thickness changes by 1.5mm).

b. Check the wiring and connection brackets for the ice plate probe, which should be free to rotate so that it returns to the correct position after each ice-making process.

Precaution of ice maker

a. Ice machine should not be placed in the open environment, preferably installed in a safe and clean, well-ventilated environment, and do not be exposed to direct sunlight and rain.

b. The ice maker should not be close to the heat source, and the use environment should not be lower than 5℃, not higher than 40℃, to avoid the high temperature affecting the condenser-heat dissipation and not to achieve a good ice-making effect.

c. The ice machine should be installed on a stable platform and the foot screws at the bottom of the machine should be adjusted to ensure that the machine is placed horizontally, otherwise, it will not de-ice and make noise during operation. Space should be left around the machine, to facilitate heat dissipation, the left right, and back space of the machine should not be less than 150mm.

d. The ice maker should use an independent power supply by national standards, and the power supply should ensure reliable grounding and be equipped with a fuse and leakage protection switch, etc. The voltage fluctuation should not exceed ±10% of the rated voltage.

e. The ice machine should use a water source that meets local drinking water standards, and install filters, etc., to remove impurities in the water to avoid blocking the water pipes, polluting the sink and ice mold, and affecting the ice-making performance. The minimum water temperature is 2℃, the maximum is not more than 35℃, the minimum water pressure is 0.02Mpa, and the maximum is 0.8Mpa.

f. Ice machine must be two months to spin open the water inlet hose head, and clean the water inlet valve screen, to avoid the water mud impurities clogging the water inlet, and causing the water intake to become small, resulting in no ice. Although the ice machine each time the ice making process is over, the water tank after cooling the remaining water drainage, to achieve the cleaning effect, effectively reduces the evaporator and water circulation system within the scale generated, generally about six months, also to use the ice machine cleaning agent and disinfectant on the water pipes, water tank, storage refrigerator and water baffle cleaning and disinfection, and rinse clean, cleaning process produced during the ice cannot be eaten. When not in use for a long time, should be cleaned and dried with a hair dryer ice mold and box moisture, placed in a non-corrosive gas and ventilation dry place, and avoid open-air storage.

g. The ice maker should be handled carefully and gently to prevent violent vibration, and the slope of handling should not be less than 45 degrees.
