What is plate sealer?

Plate sealer is used to seal PCR plates and other microplates during thermal cycling and storage for technologies such as PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and high-throughput sequencing. These consumables reduce sample evaporation to ensure high efficiency and minimal sample loss. Plate seals can come in different varieties and sealing methods. Plate sealing film is made of transparent plastic, allowing the user to visualize the sample. On the other hand, plate-sealing foils are made of thin opaque aluminum that restricts light penetration. Clear heat seal in the plate sealer is an optically clear laminate film that forms a peelable seal on polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, polycarbonate, and cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) plates. The clear heat seal forms a complete seal over the well plate and can be used for both low-temperature applications (including low-temperature storage) and high-temperature applications such as PCR (when used with pressurized heating caps). The seal is moderately solvent resistant and can be used for short-term storage of compounds at room temperature.

Thick and strong heat-sealing film

Thermobonded heat seal is a heavy-duty laminate sealing film suitable for providing a very strong but peelable seal that is compatible with polypropylene sheets for a high degree of sample protection. The heavy-duty, strong heat seal film has excellent solvent resistance for storage of ultra-low temperature compounds in DMSO and organic solvents, as well as for long-term room temperature storage, and is therefore recommended for sample transport. The seal can only be pierced with a steel needle sheet or with a perforated platen. The seal can be supplied in sheet form for manual and semi-automatic sealers, or a variety of rolled film forms compatible with specified automatic sealers.

For sealing 96-well PCR plates, generally use the transparent film and pressure-sensitive film available in the market, which needs to be sealed with heat to achieve the effect of no leakage and no contamination, with the most suitable temperature setting of 110-120℃. Cold sealing will cause thermal evaporation of PCR reaction solution, which will affect the accurate control of reaction temperature and the concentration of reaction ingredients, and also become a source of pollution.
