Nitrogen blowdown evaporator working principle

Nitrogen blowdown evaporator uses inert gas to purge the heated sample solution so that the sample to be treated can be rapidly concentrated and achieve rapid separation and purification. Its method is simple to operate, especially since it can handle several samples at the same time, which greatly shortens the detection time. It is used to remove small amounts of volatile liquids, such as water and some organic solvents, and is used more often in laboratories. In particular, the use of a rotary evaporator is not enough insurance occasions (solvent will boil), the use of a nitrogen-blowing instrument is more ideal.
Nitrogen blowing instrument uses the rapid flow of nitrogen gas to break the gas-liquid equilibrium over the liquid so that the liquid volatilization speed; and through dry heating or water bath heating to raise the temperature (the boiling point of the target is generally higher than the solvent), to achieve the purpose of sample anaerobic concentration, keeping the sample more pure.

Advantages of nitrogen blowdown evaporator

At present, the nitrogen blowdown evaporator has replaced the traditional rotary evaporator. Therefore, the nitrogen blowing instrument has the following advantages.

a. Rotary evaporators may cause sample loss when the solvent boils, while nitrogen blowdown evaporator are accurate and sensitive when concentrating to avoid sample loss.

b. Nitrogen blowers can handle multiple samples at one time, which can be advantageous in multi-level and multi-factor repeat tests.

c. Nitrogen blowers save labor by eliminating the need for long hours of maintenance by the operator during the experiment.

d. Experimental operation is simple and flexible. The concentration process can be adjusted anywhere and anytime.

Types of nitrogen blowdown evaporator

nitrogen-blowdown
1. According to the instrument heating tank structure classification:
Square nitrogen blowdown evaporator

Circular nitrogen blowdown evaporator

2. According to the instrument heating classification:
Dry bath nitrogen blowdown evaporator
Dry nitrogen blowers are mainly used for the concentration and preparation of large volume samples, such as for pharmaceuticals, medical testing, pesticide residue detection, drug screening, hormone analysis, liquid phase, gas phase and mass spectrometry sample preparation.

Water bath nitrogen blowdown evaporator
A water bath nitrogen blower is, as the name implies, a nitrogen blower that uses a special water bath as a heating carrier, distinguishing it from a dry nitrogen blower that uses an aluminum module heated at room temperature to 100°C. Among other things, a circular water bath nitrogen blower is composed of a base and support unit, a sample holder and a gas distribution system. The test tubes are held in position by means of spring-loaded tube clamps and a support frame.

Among them, the heating carrier of the metal dry bath type and aluminum block hole dry bath, aluminum bead bath, fine yellow sand bath, which is the most high-grade aluminum bead bath.

Dry bath nitrogen blower and water bath nitrogen blower

Water bath nitrogen blowdown evaporator: It can meet the daily concentration requirements because the whole concentration process is exposed to the outside, so it needs to be placed in the fume hood for use, and the operation needs to be guarded by personnel because there is no end-point detection and concentration fixing function to prevent the sample from dry burning.

Dry bath nitrogen blowdown evaporator: with endpoint detection function, through the optical sensor, to detect the volume of each sample, when the concentration to the preset volume will automatically stop the nitrogen purge, and alarm prompts, each way is a separate airflow control, greatly save the amount of nitrogen, the equipment uses a strong exhaust system, and the process of sample concentration is carried out inside the equipment, the equipment has a door mirror protection system, can avoid volatiles caused by human injury, it is recommended that the fume hood can be put to use, if there is no significant harmful substances can also not be put, so the operation is convenient.

How to use nitrogen blowdown evaporator?

1. Preparation
Before using nitrogen blowdown evaporator, the operator should be familiar with the engineering process and steps, rapid concentration requires mastering the balance between the sample volume, nitrogen flow rate, water bath temperature, and needle position, improper use will be half-hearted, or even contaminate the sample or cause sample loss; at the same time, we should pay attention to the degree of air contamination in the fume hood, nitrogen purity, sample transport process and other environmental conditions.

2. Water bath operation
Turn on the water bath power switch, and set the water bath temperature, usually, the water bath temperature should be less than the solvent boiling point temperature of 2-3 ℃.

3. Nitrogen blowdown evaporator operation steps
a. Raise the nitrogen blower to the highest position and lock it in place.

b. Place the sample cuvette on the sample positioning rack, secure the cuvette with the sample positioning rack spring, with the bottom of the cuvette on the support tray, and record the position where the sample is placed. If the support tray is too low, loosen the two positioning screws on the center ring of the support tray, raise the support tray until the bottom of the test tube is on the tray and not less than 15 mm from the positioning frame, adjust the support tray so that the slit is aligned with the test tube, tighten the positioning screws again and fix the support tray.

c. Install the stainless steel needle, directly set on it.

d. Open the nitrogen bottle, adjust the flow meter for nitrogen blowing instrument to send gas, nitrogen only need to open a little, otherwise the pressure will be too large to open the pipeline, adjust the flow meter to the required pressure.

e. Lower the needle until the needle is 6mm from the surface of the solution, adjust and unscrew the lock nut on the gas distribution plate, the needle valve tube can slide up and down, adjust the height, tighten the lock nut.

f. Before concentrating the sample, it is recommended to air-blow the nitrogen for 5-10 min to prevent residual impurity gas in the gas circuit of the nitrogen blowing instrument.

g. Adjust the flow meter to the required flow rate of the nitrogen blowing instrument; start the nitrogen blowing and fine tune the flow rate with the flow valve above the needle; and monitor the gas supply pressure, which should not exceed 200Kpa,adjust the flow valve to make the airflow ripple on the sample surface, but should prevent splashing.

h.The vaporization is continuous until it is completed, and the vaporization must be monitored according to the non-dry boundary point requirement, and the sample is removed after reaching the desired boundary point.

i. When vaporization is complete, use a clean pipette and rinse the stainless steel tip with a drop or two of solvent; slide the needle valve tube upward and remove the sample tube from the sample positioning rack. When vaporization is complete, turn off the gas supply, turn off the flow meter and flow valve, turn off the power to the water bath, and remove the stainless steel needle.
